In everyday life we all face stressful situations, weather relationship related, gender equality problems, or even something else entirely, for me I love to read and watch movies/tv to escape everyday life, so what can be farther from my everyday life then a yaoi relationship, I'm a girl and I don't really care about gender in dating so Yuri and hetrosexual relationships can both be to realistic to me, even if I didn't like girls I am a girl so yuri still more relatable that way, but, even if I know a gay couple it's not directly related to me, it could even be my twin brother (don't have a twin or even a brother but still) and it wouldn't technically be related to me because I can't experience the relationship myself, so by watching or reading a BL I'm completely removing myself from my own identity and life and just dropping into a whole new world of things I can't actually experience in everyday life. Having re-read this I realized a few more reasons why both straight and lesbian girls/wemen might like yaoi. So I haven't thought about this post in forever but I just found it again and I have a few more thoughts hopefully you're interested lol

Stories about gay men rarely portray women in a way that drags a female reader out of the story. It’s extremely pleasant to find a good story that doesn’t mangle its portrayal of your gender in some awful and offensive way.

Many straight girls/women like romantic/sexual stories involving gay men because they are free of the stereotypical portrayal of women. It's not showing women being used as male toys, it's not a genre that exploits women. This gives women an outlet that is free from male harassment.Īnother interesting psychological aspect can be related to the fact that gay male relationships, don't objectify, disrespect, exploit, or abuse females. However, when a woman reads explicit sex between men, most straight men simply put on a head cube and act like it doesn't exist.

Some of Blue Flag can be read on Jump's Manga Plus app, while Viz Media is localizing and releasing its printed volumes.I found an article by Yaoi/Boy's Love researcher Mizoguchi Akiko-san and she said that if a woman is on a train seen reading explicit manga with heterosexual sex, she will be identified as easy if the woman is seen reading a Yuri (lesbian) sex scene, she will be identified as lesbian and harassed. For such a title not to be marketed as yaoi and make it into the pages of such a major magazine shows the strides that LGBTQ media is slowly making.

It's an LGBTQ manga that deals with being outed and homophobia - and was published in Weekly Shonen Jump, one of the biggest, most popular manga magazines, catering mostly to young boys. One criticism of Blue Flag is that the manga's conclusion ends up feeling rushed, but Blue Flag is still an extremely important manga.

However, a surprising twist threatens their blossoming romance, and Taichi realizes he definitely doesn't know Touma as much as he thought he did. Taichi avoids Futaba at first, but the two soon become closer. Then, a quiet girl named Futaba admits her love for Touma and asks Taichi for his help in winning Touma over. Taichi has always felt inferior to his popular friend Touma, and thus keeps his distance as they approach their senior year. Blue Flag, by mangaka KAITO, seems like a generic love triangle at first glance.
